BIAS CALCULATIONS FOR ADAPTIVE URN DESIGNS

A clinical trial model is considered in which two treatments with immediate binary responses are to be compared. An adaptive urn design is used to assign patients to the treatments. The bias and variance of the maximum likelihood estimators of the probabilities of success are derived by differentiating the fundamental identity of sequential analysis. By embedding the design in a continuous-time process, probability generating functions are then calculated to obtain approximations for the bias and variance. Simulation is used to assess the accuracy of the approximations. It is shown that the bias cannot be ignored, and that the adaptive rules which are subcritical in nature have the most mathematically tractable bias and are the least variable. Methods for correcting for the bias are also addressed.

Local power of likelihood‐based tests for cointegrating rank: Comparative analysis of full and partial systems

This note investigates local power properties of likelihood‐based cointegrating rank tests for partial and full vector autoregressive systems. The asymptotic distributions of partial likelihood‐based tests under local alternatives are derived, depending on various specifications of deterministic terms. A simulation study is then performed using both the full and partial systems. It is demonstrated that the rank tests based on the partial system, if a required parametric condition is fulfilled, can be more powerful than those based on the full system. This finding encourages testing cointegrating rank using a partial system as well as a full system, in such circumstances as the parametric condition could be satisfied.     

Digital communication signals identification using an efficient recognizer

Automatic recognition of the communication signals plays an important role for various applications. Most of the existing techniques require high levels of signal to noise ratio (SNR). In this paper, we propose a high efficient technique for classification of the digital modulations that requires a low level of SNRs. This technique includes two main modules: feature extraction module and the classifier module. In the feature extraction module we use the auto-regressive modeling together other useful features. These features are a combination set of the entropy and energy of the signal, variance of the coefficients wavelet packet transform, fourth order of moment and zero-crossing rate. In the classifier module we have used the two structures of the neural networks: multi-layer perceptron (MLP) neural network and radial basis neural networks. Simulation results show the proposed technique has very high recognition accuracy for identification of the considered digital modulations even at very low SNRs.

Generalized weighted likelihood density estimators with application to finite mixture of exponential family distributions

The family of weighted likelihood estimators largely overlaps with minimum divergence estimators. They are robust to data contaminations compared to MLE. We define the class of generalized weighted likelihood estimators (GWLE), provide its influence function and discuss the efficiency requirements. We introduce a new truncated cubic-inverse weight, which is both first and second order efficient and more robust than previously reported weights. We also discuss new ways of selecting the smoothing bandwidth and weighted starting values for the iterative algorithm. The advantage of the truncated cubic-inverse weight is illustrated in a simulation study of three-component normal mixtures model with large overlaps and heavy contaminations. A real data example is also provided.     

不同干燥方式对单丛茶抗氧化能力影响研究

本研究以潮汕白叶单丛品种为原料,采用不同季节和不同干燥方式加工的成茶,研究其抗氧化能力的差异,并对其进行主要生化成分的测定和感官审评。实验结果表明,炭焙精制是最好的干燥方式,二春炭焙茶具有较强的抗氧化功能。
